Terms of Use

These Terms of Use set the conditions for using Suffolk Residents Directory. By using this private reference, you agree to these terms. Do not use the service if you do not agree.

1. Purpose of This Reference

Suffolk Residents Directory is privately operated. It summarizes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and historical directory collections connected with Suffolk, Virginia. It does not host government records, and it is not affiliated with the City of Suffolk, the Suffolk Circuit Court Clerk, the Library of Virginia, or any other court, office, or custodian.

2. Permitted and Prohibited Use

Use this reference only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or material reached through it, to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person
  • Find a person protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit fraud, identity theft, or another unlawful act
  • Make FCRA-regulated credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or similar decisions
  • Scrape, copy, or republish this site’s content at scale
  • Disrupt the site’s operation, security, or access controls

3. No Consumer Reports

Suffolk Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Nothing published here, and nothing produced by a linked search tool, is a consumer report. It may not be used to decide eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or any other purpose regulated by the FCRA.

4. Outside Services and Links

Government portals, libraries, archives, and sponsored search tools operate independently and have their own terms and privacy practices. We do not control their content, availability, prices, record displays, or handling of information you submit to them.

5. No Warranties

This reference is offered “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that any information is complete, accurate, current, or suited to a particular purpose, nor do we guarantee that a linked portal will remain available or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the site operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or other damages arising from use of this reference or a linked resource, including decisions made from a record located through either source.

7. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the site operators harmless from claims or demands, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that result from your misuse of the reference or violation of these terms.

8. Site Content and Copyright

The site’s original text, layout, logo, and design are protected by copyright. You may link to a page and quote a brief excerpt with attribution. Republishing full pages or systematically copying site content is not permitted.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms by posting an updated version here. Continued use after a revision means that you accept the updated terms.

10. Restricting Access

We may suspend, block, or limit access for a user who violates these terms or misuses the site. This action may occur without notice and at our discretion.

11. Virginia Law

Virginia law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. For existing City of Suffolk records, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code §§2.2-3700 et seq., applies as relevant. Its request provision, Va. Code §2.2-3704, calls for a reasonably specific request and generally requires a response within five working days or a statutory extension. The Act does not override court-record exclusions, vital-record eligibility, voter confidentiality, or other statutory limits.

12. Severability

If a court finds one provision of these terms unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

13. Terms Questions

Questions about these terms may be sent through the Contact page.
